Biography

Keira Knightley was born March 20, 1985 outside of London, England. Her parents are Will Knightley, an actor, and Sharman Macdonald, a playwright. Keira also has an older brother, Caleb.

When she was only 3-years-old, Keira demanded an agent and her parents allowed her to work only during the summers so that her work would not interfere with her schooling. Her acting career took off when she was cast as Natalie Portman's handmaiden in the 1999 blockbuster Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menance. Afterwards, Keira starred with Thora Birch in the 2001 film The Hole and the UK film Bend It Like Beckham, a sleeper hit that has won rave reviews with both critics and audiences.

Keira's role in Beckham landed her the role in Jerry Bruckheimer's Disney summer blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The movie has been so successful that there is talk that there will be a sequel, and it is rumored that Keira has agreed to come back as the "don't-call-me-a-damsel-just-because-I'm-in-distress" Elizabeth Swann.

When Keira is not filming, she adores shopping for shoes and apparently buys any that strike her fancy. She's currently filming another Disney film, King Arthur, and has another film, Love Actually, due out in theaters this November.
